Career in Defence
Career in defence is one of the hottest career option amongst the youth and this is considered to be the most prestigious and honorable job. This requires a disciplined life and provides a feeling of responsibility and ability to face the challenges. There are a huge number of Opportunities for joining three wings of defence services, i.e. Indian Army, Air Force or Indian Navy.
This career option is for those who are passionate and ambitious and have a keen desire to serve the nation. It also helps in building leadership skills. For getting into Defence Services, candidates are required to give Written Test, Interview and Physical Fitness Test during the selection process.
Career in Indian Army:
Indian army is the land based branch of Defence Services. The main aim of Indian army is to ensure the safety & security of the nation and also maintaining the peace. It requires people with great metal and physical strength having desire to serve the nation. Aspirants need to appear in Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) to join the Army.
Career in Air Force:
Air Force is the air arm of the Defence Services and its main aim is to secure air space of the country. Indian Air Force makes you strong enough and teaches you to discover your potentials. This career option is not a path of comfort but you have to face difficulties and challenges. It is for brave and energetic persons. Candidates can give Air Force Common Aptitude Test (AFCAT) or CDS Exam to join the Air Force.
Career in Navy:
Indian Navy is one of the major pillars of Defence Services. It is the naval branch and its main aim is to secure the nation’s maritime borders and to enhance the international relations. Navy is an honorable three dimensional force and has the fifth place in all over countries. It is the best career option for enthusiastic and power-loving aspirants.
Two main paths of joining these three wings are – either through National Defence Academy or through the Combined Defence Services Exam. Union Public service Commission conducts both the exams to select capable and talented aspirants.
Opportunities for Joining Defence Services
After passing10th standard /matriculation, candidates may apply for the posts of LDC, General Duty, Technical Staff, Nursing Asst., constable, Sailor, Seaman etc. as per their preference and interests.
After Intermediate, participants can apply for National Defence Academy and they are required to give a written Test. Contenders who have completed 12th may also apply for engineering field in the Army.
After completion of Bachelor’s Degree, Students may go for Combined Defence Services Exam which is held by UPSC every year. Those who qualify the exam are sent for the training. Positions of officers are available after Graduation.
An Engineering graduate can join the Indian Military Academy directly. They only require participating in the Service Selection Board interview. Candidates may apply for the officers’ and Short Service Commission (Technical) positions available for engineering graduates of different disciplines.
